A specialist neurodevelopmental history is a detailed assessment exploring an individual’s development, experiences and patterns of functioning from early childhood through to the present day. It considers areas such as communication, social interaction, attention, learning, sensory processing, emotional regulation and everyday functioning, alongside developmental, educational and family history.

 

The assessment provides an opportunity to understand how these characteristics may have changed over time and how they impact on the individual’s life at home, in education, at work and within relationships. It is a collaborative process, helping to build a comprehensive picture of an individual’s strengths, needs and experiences .
