Therapy and Support After Assessment

Having an assessment is just the beginning of a new journey, a different way to understand our lives, and a fresh way to see the world and our place within it. It is also an opportunity for others to understand us differently - and that counts whatever the diagnosis is or isn't.

We provide personalised interventions, therapies and support according to individual needs, and we work hand in hand with adults, children, families and friends to ensure the best care and support.

At Autism North East, you will always be seen by highly qualified and experienced Specialist Clinicians:

  • Our Clinical Psychologists offer a wide range of support with, for example, anxiety, low mood, learning differences, relationships, managing daily life at school, at work and at home

  • Our Speech and Language Therapists offer language-based interventions such as PACT and Makaton

  • Our Occupational Therapist offers support around Sensory Processing/Regulation, Motor Co-ordination (DCD)

  • Our Specialist Teacher offers School/College-related advice, support and help with EHCP planning.

We are all very experienced working with adults, children and young people with a wide range of difficulties. We welcome working collaboratively with other services and professionals and have excellent multi-agency relationships in the region.

Autism North East was set up in 2013 in response to the negative changes that were taking place in the NHS where clinicians were being asked to work in ways that didn't fit with their professional values.

We wanted to ensure that extremely high quality, rigorous assessments would always be available so that people could access the right diagnosis and support quickly. Our values around providing an ethical service led us to set the service up as a not-for-profit organisation.
