Cognitive Assessments and Learning Assessments

How does a Cognitive Assessment help?

The term 'Cognitive' refers to how the human brain thinks, learns, remembers, and processes information.

Understanding more about Cognitive ability profiles helps to understand how we manage everyday life - how a child manages in school, and how as adults we function in the workplace.

  • Our Clinical Psychologists assess each individual using a wide range of Clinical tools to gain a full understanding of both strengths and needs.

  • Learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Slow Processing can be identified and strategies for support developed.

  • We are able to gain detailed profiles of an individual’s thinking, reasoning and memory skills.

  • Cognitive assessments allow us to reach a good understanding of strengths and differences across several areas of cognitive functioning.

  • This helps guide supports and adaptations in school, in the workplace and in everyday activities such as organisation, planning and remembering.

Autism North East was set up in 2013 in response to the negative changes that were taking place in the NHS where clinicians were being asked to work in ways that didn't fit with their professional values.

We wanted to ensure that extremely high quality, rigorous assessments would always be available so that people could access the right diagnosis and support quickly. Our values around providing an ethical service led us to set the service up as a not-for-profit organisation.
